Factors to Consider When Shipping your Recreational Vehicle

It is crucial to know that there are many factors that come into play when you need to ship your RV to the Middle East and Europe. You must consider the following:

· Size determines how your vehicle will be shipped. Vehicles can either be shipped in an exclusive container, shared container, or RoRo.

· Choose the shipping mode that is convenient and yet affordable for you.

· Find a shipping company that offers marine insurance for your RV. This will cover you in case of any transportation-related peril.

· The level of gas in your tank; for safety purpose, the gas of your RV should not be more than a quarter of a tank.

· Prep Your Vehicle – make sure that your RV is ready for transit and this means that it should be in good condition, well lubricated, and free of any loose accessories that might be damaged during transit.

· Before your RV leaves the port, it must have a clear owner, and every detail to that effect must be clearly and precisely stated. Note that vehicles in lien cannot leave the U.S., except those that belong to the government employees and contractor and military.

Advantages using a RoRo Shipping

After considering the above factors, it is clear to see that RoRo shipping is best for your RV for the following reasons:

Space: Your RV cannot get into a container. Therefore, it has to be shipped using a RoRo, where it is safely secured in an ample area for safe transport.

Cheap: As this mode of shipping utilizes space efficiently, it is cost effective compared container shipping.

Reliable: RoRo has reliable departure and arrival schedules. Thus, you will be able to conveniently estimate when your RV will reach the port for easy pickup.

Convenient: RoRo shipping enables you to quickly drive away with ease, once the ship has arrived at its destination. And because your RV can easily be driven, then it passes through easy and fast loading and offloading process.

Relatively safe; RoRo shipping is safe as your vehicle will be transported below the deck safe from adverse weather conditions such as low and high temperatures among other factors. If you need just this and more, Shipoverseas has it.

RV Shipping to the Middle East and Europe can effectively be achieved by using a RoRo ship. However, to smoothen its transport, always make sure that RV is prepared for transit, has a clear owner without a lien, and insured against marine perils.

Important info to Ship a Car Overseas:
  • No car can leave USA if it has a lien on it. What does this mean? Your car must be paid in full. The only people who can ship a car overseas and still carry a lien on the car are US Military and Government employees/contractors. For those people a letter of authorization from the lender will need to be issued to pass US Customs. Otherwise the car may be considered stolen.
  • A clear Title of Ownership with no Liens on the Title.
  • If you bought a car new, then your name must be listed on the front of the Title as the registered owner.
  • If the vehicle has been sold, then both the Seller and Buyer have to sign the back of the Title in the spaces as detailed on the back of the Title.
  • For safety reasons, the vehicle cannot have more than a ¼ tank of gas.
Import Duty for Destination Country:
  • Import duty is NOT collected by Ship Overseas. It must be paid at the arrival port by whoever is picking up the car. We wrote a blog post about vehicle import duty here. It talks about how to find out import duty for your country.
Travel & Living Abroad:
  • Most countries will allow a traveler to temporarily import their car for up to 6 months. After the 6 months is up, import duty will be charged. For many travelers going to Europe and taking their car, a deposit is paid up front. When the car goes back to it's destination country, the deposit is refunded. If a person has lived in USA for 1 or more years, most countries will allow that person to bring their car back duty free! The car must not have any liens on it. Please check with your Customs Department first.
