FAQs: Shipping an RV Overseas

Got an RV? Need to get it from here to another country? Think it will cost you an arm and leg or take a million steps to achieve? Think again. Here at Ship Overseas, we ship recreational vehicles (RVs) from the USA to most other countries all the time. While our process is simple, there are many things to consider, whether you have a motorhome, camper, trailer or conversion bus.

Check out these FAQs we hear a lot:

Q: What Shipping Method do RVs Use?

A: When exporting a bus or RV, the RoRo method is the only option you have due to the sheer size of the vehicle. RoRo ships are built for shipping wheeled cargo, and it’s short for roll-on, roll-off. This means the vehicles are driven on to the ship via a ramp, almost like it was a parking garage.

Q: What Happens When the RV is Loaded Onto the Vessel?

A: Once loaded on the RoRo vessel, your RV will be tied down securely in its designated spot. This method is both highly efficient and very cost-effective. Unlike container shipping, RoRo shipping has reliable departure and arrival dates, with a schedule that runs similarly to an airline’s. All RVs are tied down below deck for the ultimate protection against external elements.

Q: Do I Have to Take the RV to You?

A: You may take your own RV to the departure shipping port yourself and we will ship it to the destination port. This is called port-to-port. With other smaller vehicles, we are able to come get it from you at your home or business. Due to the size of these vehicles, we ask that you bring it to us at the port.

Q: In addition to RVs, what else do you ship?

A: We ship all large vehicles related to RVs such as:

  • Popup Campers
  • Motorhomes
  • Truck Campers
  • Toy Haulers
  • Travel Trailers
  • Light Weights
  • Bus Conversions

Q: Do You Handle the U.S. Customs Clearance Process?

A: Yes, we handle all aspects of U.S. Customs Clearance, walking you through the entire RV shipping process so you can get everything squared away expeditiously and legally.

Q: Do I Have to Pay Right Away?

A: No. Once you get your pricing in the email we send, you can go ahead and place your order and pay us later. There is no need to pay right away.

Q: What Paperwork Do I Need to Ship an RV?

A: In order to ship an RV overseas, you must follow the same rules as shipping a car. This means you need a clear Title of Ownership with no liens on the title. If you bought the RV new, then your name must be listed on the front of the title as the registered owner. If the RV has been sold, both the buyer and seller must sign the back of the title.

Q: How Do I Start?

A: The first step is to get an online quote from us now. It’s free, and we just need to ask you a few basic questions about your RV, the port it’s coming from and the port it’s going to.
