For all five ports, it costs $1,130 to ship a car from the U.S. to Ghana. These are estimated costs only. Many factors will affect the actual price of your order, such as:
The method you choose to get your car to the U.S. port. Some people take their own car to the port, which costs less. Others live too far from the nearest port and opt for our truck drivers to transport it from their home to the port. This adds to the final cost.
The size of your vehicle. In general, it costs more to ship a larger car than a smaller one. So you will pay more to ship an SUV, for instance, than a compact car.

I used Ship Overseas back in 2019 to ship my 2008 Harley Softtail from Galveston Texas to Belgium. I forget exactly how long it took, perhaps in the two month range. However, the bike did eventually arrive and was completely ready for me at pickup. They even handled all the import paperwork etc. My only complaint would be that somehow the bike had accumulated almost 100 extra miles on it from when I dropped in off, and picking it up. Perhaps they needed to run it around the boat a few 1000 times. Also, there were a couple of parts missing from my saddle bags. Lesson: NEVER leave anything that can't be bolted to the object you are shipping. Otherwise, great service and a very good shipping experience.

Hello Tere! Last summer I sent my car to Estonia. I was scared little bit because it was my first time ( maybe even last!) to do this kind of thing. But it went very smoothly - unexpectedly . Most difficult thing was driving myself to the port, but I did it! I could order somebody from Ship Overseas, but it cost money. And paperwork was pretty normal. The same day, I left to the airport, I got phone call that they sent car title to my old address. Wow! I thought that this title goes directly to the Estonian port, but I was wrong. Vehicles older than 10 years are subject to additional Taxes and Duties.
A clear Title of Ownership with no Liens on the Title.
If you bought a car new, then your name must be listed on the front of the Title as the registered owner.
If the vehicle has been sold, then both the Seller and Buyer have to sign the back of the Title in the spaces as detailed on the back of the Title.
For safety reasons, the vehicle cannot have more than a ¼ tank of gas.
Visit the CIT website, to see if Ghana requires you to file for a FERI, ECTN, BSC or an ASHI, before it enters the country.

The destination handling charge for shipping a car to Ghana is $200.
Do You Need Marine Insurance?
We recommend you get it but it is not required. We offer insurance in the amount of 1.75% of the value of the vehicle for FULL coverage, theft, vandalism, total loss, and damage with $500 deductible. Coverage starts at the time the car is loaded onto the ship until the time it’s signed for when collecting. Total Loss: 1.25% charge for the value of the vehicle. Side Note: You don’t have to cover 100% of the vehicle’s value. If you feel Marine Insurance is too expensive, cover the car for 50% or 75% of the value. If you do not purchase any insurance, then you have to pay out of pocket for any damages.

RoRo Shipping – RoRo ships are meant to transport wheeled cargo such as cars and motorcycles. This involves vehicles being driven onto the ship of their own power (consider it like a big parking garage ramp). This is the most affordable way to ship a car to Ghana.
Container Shipping – Your car is shipped inside a container with other cars to offset cost if you select shared shipping;orit can travel solo in its own container if you prefer (you will pay more for this privilege).

Shipping Method for Shipping a Car to Ghana

RoRo Shipping (Roll On/Roll Off)
If you are shipping a single vehicle to Ghana, RoRo is a good idea. Not only is it cost-effective and efficient, it also comes with reliable departure and arrival dates. All vehicles are tied to the deck with no exposure to the ocean, so your vehicle is protected against external elements.
Roll On/Roll Off happens to be our most popular option, as well as the most affordable and convenient. It’s only used for wheeled vehicles such as motorcycles and cars, so as long as they can be driven onto the ship of their own power, RoRo is an option for you. Once loaded onto the vessel, each vehicle is tied down securely.
We ship a variety of vehicles this way, from motorhomes and campers to trailers and buses — even construction vehicles and boats. Even new car manufacturers select this for shipping their own vehicles overseas.
Your other option is to choose a shipping container to ship your car to Ghana, of which there are two more options: shared or exclusive container shipping.
Shared Container Shipping
This is the more affordable of the two, as the cost is offset over four vehicles in the same container. However, there is a drawback to this method, and that is the fact that you will likely have to wait until the whole container is filled with other vehicles before it can be loaded onto the container ship and set sail. Unfortunately, there’s no way to know when the departure date will be for certain.
It’s not uncommon to find yourself waiting on standby an extra week until the container is filled with more cars.
That being said, you can ship additional items in the trunk or the backseat of your vehicle, which you can’t do with RoRo. You are also able to ship vehicles that are not in good working order, as the car is placed in the container rather than driven.
If you have two or more vehicles to ship to Ghana, or if you don’t care when the ship sets sail, this method is the best to choose.
Exclusive container shipping is more expensive but your car is the only one in the container. This option is perfect for transporting exotic, expensive or rare vehicles like Bentleys, Ferraris, Aston Martins, etc., giving you added protection and attention to detail. You’ll pay more for this than RoRo or Shared Container shipping, but if peace of mind is important to you, then go for this one.

Open and Enclosed Auto Shipping
Maybe you can’t get your car to the port on your own. In this case, we will transport your vehicle to the port for you, via open and enclosed auto shipping, whereby our drivers will pick up the car from your location and deliver it to the port for shipping to Ghana.
Open Auto Shipping – This is the most common type of car shipping method, ideal for standard cars, compact cars, sedans and minivans. It’s the most cost effective but your car is loaded on a transport truck with up to nine other cars or as few as five cars. The driver will load and unload the truck of vehicles while making his or her way across the country. The load will lighten considerably as each car is dropped off. And you pay less overall because the cost is split among all cars.
Enclosed Auto Shipping – This will cost you more but you have more protection during transport because the cars are enclosed. Choose this if you have to transport luxury, exotic, specialty, or vintage cars to Ghana. For the higher price, you get lower risk due to the fact that your car doesn’t come into contact with the elements. Your car is shipped together with two other vehicles, driven onto the truck on a special ramp or lift-gate.
In a nutshell, yes, we think so. In fact, we heavily recommend buying the optional marine insurance because you just never know what could happen! Damage or loss is certainly rare, but accidents can and do happen, especially when the seas are rough during hurricane season between June and November.
We offer FULL COVERAGE Marine Insurance against Loss or Damage from the time your car is loaded onto the ship. The cost is 1.75% of the value you wish to insure the car for.
