2 Car Shipping Methods

Car shipping to Sweden using roro ship

1) RoRo Ship (Roll on Roll off)

Use this car shipping method if you are shipping one or two cars to Sweden. The car must be able to start on its own and drive up the ramp with no mechanical assistance. The only items permitted inside the vehicle are the spare tire along with the jack. Once the car is aboard the ship, it is blocked and braced to the ship's deck to prevent it from slipping and sliding as the ship rocks at sea.

Shipping a car to Sweden using the RoRo method is much cheaper than the second method (container shipping) because less people are involved and there are no cranes to lift the vehicles on and off the ship. It is also a much safer method since the car is driven onto the ship vs lifted in a container.

2) Container Ship

Use this car shipping method if you are moving to Sweden and taking personal belongings. This is a fantastic way to ship a car to Sweden while moving household items. You can use either a shared container or full "exclusive" container. Unlike the RoRo shipping method, you can ship items in the car as long as you have an itemized list of the items along with their values.

Shared Container - Use a shared container if you can fit all boxes inside your truck and back seat. You will have to secure the boxes very well to prevent them from damaging the interior of the car. The car will be lifted on and off the ship so items will move. In addition, the ship will be rocking while out to sea so the boxes will be shifting. When using a shared container, someone else's belongings will be in the container as well.

Full Container - Use a full container if you are shipping multiple cars or moving large items like furniture. This is also known as an exclusive container. The picture to the left illustrates how your car and items will be shipped.
