Container Shipping to Costa Rica from USA

Shipping Containers Abroad

We utilize our 25+ years of container shipping expertise to safely and efficiently ship your containers to Costa Rica from virtually any major port in the USA. Our lines can ship all kinds of goods, such as industrial supplies and materials, consumer goods, capital goods, foods feeds and beverages, and automotive vehicles (cars, parts, and engines).

Here's how it works:

When you first submit a quote form to us, you start the process going, which is very easy and painless. Once you give us the location of where to pickup the product, what you are shipping, and the size of the container, we can better advise you on the price tag for container shipment to Costa Rica. Rest assured, if you place an order, we will first authorize your credit card to ensure funds are indeed there, with the actual charge coming later. Once we get notification that the credit card has been authorized, we proceed to send our truck driver to your location, along with an empty container. Once all goods are loaded, the sealed container goes back on the truck for transport to the departure port, where it will be loaded for its Costa Rican destination. Mail a notarized copy of the original Bill of Sale to us for Customs purposes. A copy of this, plus the dock receipt, must be provided to the truck driver. Only then will payment be made by credit card, check, or bank transfer.

We make the whole process easy, by offering to take care of all necessary documents to meet export compliance standards and leaving you with time to concentrate on the important parts of your business. Our mission is to provide our valued customers with crucial information for all aspects of container shipping to Costa Rica. We provide fast, convenient shipping quotes to help you plan out your next move. Helping you to streamline your container shipping process is one of our top priorities, and is also the point where you’ll see the difference between us and other companies. For better planning, we offer tracking information upon request.

Information For USA Based Companies -

In the event your company needs to ship a container to Costa Rica, it’s sometimes a requirement that a special license is in order for exports of certain kinds of commodities/goods. We'll let you know once you fill out the quote form, if you are not quite sure a license is needed to export your product. The importer (receiver) is required to pay for import duties at the time of arrival at the destination port. If for any reason you need the import duties for your customer, contact the Costa Rica Embassy in Washington DC.

The United States Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is in charge of making sure laws and regulations for all goods exiting the USA are followed and enforced. Although the CBP is responsible for enforcing these export rules and regulations, often times authority is delegated by them to other government agencies for certain types of commodities or goods, such as prescription drugs. So, any company looking to export such drugs must obtain a license first, directing commodity licensing requirements to that lead agency.

A listing of basic products that you may need an export license for, as well as pertinent agency information and phone numbers, can be found at the websites of U.S. Department of Commerce; Bureau of Industry and Security; Department of State; Directorate of Defense Trade Controls; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Drug Enforcement Administration; Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Office of Foreign Assets Control; or the Bureau of the Census. All of these websites feature information from other government agencies that possess export control responsibilities. New companies can get acquainted with international trade importing/exporting containers from this source: US Customs & Border Protection - Basic Importing and Exporting.

We can let you know if you will need a permit or license for exported products upon receiving your completed quote form. Click the big green "Get Rates" button to start the process.

Information for Costa Rican Based Companies -

Costa Rica-based companies importing controlled goods within the country would be wise to check if a license is required, as it is considered a criminal offense to import goods without showing the appropriate license. It’s also wise for the company receiving goods in Costa Rica to be completely prepared in regards to import duties and/or permits to avoid any problems or barriers to entry. USA-based companies take note: import duty is paid by the receiver at pickup in Costa Rica. We strongly urge you to contact the Costa Rica Customs Department to know what your import duties will be once your product arrives.

Shipping Container Measurements - 20ft, 40ft, 40ft HC

If you don’t know what size container if right for you, check the container dimensions here. Please list your desired container size on the quote form so that we can better assist you in providing an accurate price. You can select from 20ft, 40ft, 40ft HC (High Container) containers, with the most common being the 20ft container and the 40ft HC. The height difference between a 40ft container and a 40ft HC is illustrated in the picture to the right.

Marine Insurance - Protecting Your Product

It’s always a good idea to sign up for the optional marine insurance. While damage during transport is rare, you will be happy you got the insurance if this does indeed happen. COGSA (Carriage of Goods by Sea Act) spells out the fact that. Legally, the person or company on the Bill of Lading is entitled to $500 in the event of damage or loss. Therefore, if your company wants to ship a container worth $50,000 (USD) of product, get the insurance. You don’t want to receive only $500 in case something goes wrong. Because it’s a pretty sure bet that the ship will rock while out to sea, valuables and fragile items such as electronics should be packed carefully prior to loading. Depending on the stated value of the product, marine insurance costs will vary. Even though it’s optional, we highly recommend protecting your assets.

Marine insurance will give you peace of mind!
