Information For The Exporter (USA Based Companies) -

If your company is shipping a container to Europe, a special license may be needed if exporting certain types of commodities/goods. We'll let you know after you fill out the quote form if a license is required. Just let us know what you are shipping.Your company does not have to pay the import duties since the receiver pays for it. Import duties are to be paid once the product arrives to the destination port.

The United States Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the governing body responsible for enforcing laws and regulations for all goods exiting USA. Although the CBP is the one who enforces export rules and regulations, authority is delegated by them to other government agencies for certain commodities or goods. Commodity licensing requirements should be directed to that lead agency. For example, a pharmaceutical company shipping a container to Europe will need a license to export its prescription drugs.

Agency information, phone numbers, and basic commodities/products which may require export licenses, can be obtained by viewing either the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security, Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of Foreign Assets Control or the Bureau of the Census websites. All of these websites include information from numerous other government agencies with export control responsibilities. For companies new to international trade importing/exporting containers, this is a great source to learn from: US Customs & Border Protection - Basic Importing and Exporting.

Most companies who contact us are in the US and need to ship a container to their customer in Europe.

Information For The Importer (European Based Companies) -

Knowledge about import duties and/or permits are important. Many road blocks can occur for an unprepared importer. All European countries have their own import regulations and handle their imports differently, especially when it comes to import compliance. To get more import duty information for a specific country in Europe, hover your cursor over the "Container Shipping" tab to find your country. Also, it's important to note import duties vary depending on the type of products that are being imported. If there are any import duties, the company receiving the product normally pays for it at the port of arrival.

If you are in a European country and need to ship a container to Europe, then contact your Customs Department to get exact import duty rates for your products. You can easily find contact information for your Customs Department on the web. They will let you know if a permit is required to import your goods.

Oftentimes European companies contact us to pick up their product in the US, using one of our containers, and ship it to Europe.

Shipping Container Measurements - 20 Foot and 40 Foot

With our extensive experience helping companies worldwide ship containers to Europe, we know that the shipper and/or buyer may not know what kind of container suits their needs. We have provided container dimensions here. This will help the shipping department know whether to use a 20ft, 40ft, 40ft HC (High Container) container. The image to your left illustrates the height difference between a 40ft container and a 40ft HC. We help many companies, both small and large, export containers from USA to Europe. The most common container sizes are the 20 foot container and the 40 foot HC.

Marine Insurance - Protecting Your Product

While damages are rare, if the receiving company wants to protect their purchase from damages that may occur during shipment, they will have the option to add marine insurance prior to paying. The ship WILL rock while out to sea so pack your product safely before loading it inside the container; especially fragile items like electronics or anything that may break. The amount of insurance will depend on the value of the product. Marine insurance is optional.

We highly recommend protecting your shipment against loss or damage
